Literally hundreds of books and articles have been written on the subject of End Time events with just as many opposing opinions. The purpose of this article is not to try to add some new profound truth, but to try to add some clarity by using a different approach to this subject. When applicable, I will use scriptures as much as possible, but it needs to be understood that much of what I will be writing will be my own personal opinions. Anybody who has read literature on this subject before can readily see that the authors of these books have also injected their own personal opinions because no man knows exactly what will unfold in the future. It is my personal opinion that most writings on this subject have become bogged down with too much detail, and many have overlooked the bigger overall picture. I believe that keeping focused on the simplicity of the gospel in its relation to what the original fall (sin) of man was will help bring clarity and understanding to the end time events.
In the study of prophecy as it relates to the end times, the entire Bible must be taken into account. This, then, would begin with the fall of man and Gods plan of salvation. If the Genesis account of creation, the fall of man and Gods redemptive plan for salvation are discounted, then the entire Bible has to be discarded. When the New Age thought that says the Bible contains some truth is embraced, the door is opened wide for the great delusion - that will overtake the entire world. The Bible either contains all truth or it is a book filled with contradictions, myths and fairy tales (as many are proclaiming). When the Genesis account of creation is believed to be only an explanation to appease ignorant ancient superstitious people, and that Adam and Eve were only a myth, then there was not an original sin passed on to all mankind. If there was no original sin, then Gods redemptive plan of salvation becomes no more than a myth, as does the God of the Bible.
The fall of man (original sin) was rebellion. Rebellion is organized opposition intended to change or overthrow existing authority. This is what Lucifer desired - and it was with this same rebellion, this defiance of authority, that he tempted man. That we could be our own gods was the original lie that led to the original sin of rebellion. This is the created saying to the Creator, We will have no God to rule over us. Lucifer and man both looked upon themselves as if they were responsible for the beauty and the good things that God had created. Not only is man ungrateful, man also refuses to give God the glory.
When man refuses to acknowledge God as the sovereign authority and places himself as the authority, this becomes self-worship. When man rejects the one who created him, he then devises gods of his own to worship.
These gods are subjected to man, which in turn makes men into gods who desire to rule over the lesser gods. Of course, these gods are not gods in reality but are only the figment of mans imagination. - When man refuses to acknowledge God the Creator, then he has no choice but to serve gods of his own device, and to his own demise, because there is no salvation apart from God himself.
Today we hear much ado about unity of faiths that worship the same God, but this cannot be true when all faiths (outside of fundamental Christianity) deny the divinity of Christ. What those who deny the divinity of Christ are really saying is that we all worship the same God, except for fundamental Christians who are divisive and are out of the mainstream. Both beliefs cannot be correct because one belief blatantly opposes the other. In a situation such as this where the two are mutually exclusive, we are forced us to choose one or the other. What it all comes down to is either fundamental Christians are worshiping another God or all other faiths are worshiping other gods.
There are 206 verses in the Old Testament that speak of gods. Sixty three times we see gods used as other gods, 28 times as their gods, 10 times as strange gods, twice as new gods, twice as molten gods, 9 times as thy gods, 46 times as the gods, three times as your gods, one time make us gods, one time as made them gods, one time as serve gods, 46 times as the gods, twice as her gods, three times as my gods, four times as his gods, one time as made gods, twice as our gods, and one time as make gods. Every one of these references to gods refers to them in a negative way in that they oppose the God of the Bible who is the Creator of all things.
Since the beginning of creation and throughout history (up to and including the present time) there have been only two groups of people: those who serve the Creator and those who serve other gods. The word Pagan means a heathen, one who is without God. The Pagans prefer the definition earth dweller and this definition (in its broadest term) would be one who worships the creation rather than the Creator. It would be an accurate statement to say that to worship other gods is Paganism and that all religions which worship other gods fall under the sweeping umbrella of Paganism. If there is only One God as the Bible states and if Jesus is the true God, then to reject the only means for salvation is to serve and worship other gods that cannot save mankind.
The Bible speaks of unity of THE faith, not the unity of FAITHS. The Bible also speaks of the cross as foolishness to those who are perishing and of those who reject the Son of God and consider the blood sacrifice of Christ as an unholy thing. In doing so, they reject the Spirit of grace. Fundamental Christianity stands alone and separate from all other religions in the entire world. Only Christianity teaches that salvation is a free gift by grace and not of works. Christianity alone teaches that Jesus is the Son of God who is the Creator, the Almighty. Christianity alone teaches that there is no other name by which man must be saved. Christianity alone teaches that it is God himself who came to save man through his own sacrifice for the sins of mankind. Christianity alone teaches the triune nature of God, Elohim who is God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Christianity alone teaches that one must be born again to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Seeing that all religions in the entire world (including pseudo-Christian cults) deny these basic fundamentals of Christianity, how can Christianity unite with other faiths unless Christians deny their own faith?
Interestingly, this is exactly what many Christian churches are doing in these last days. We see many supposed representatives of and spokespersons for Christianity joining in with other faiths and calling for unity. Those who have done this have denied their own faith for the sake of the unity of faiths.
The Apostle Paul says, Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. (2Cor.6:14-18)
Jesus says, Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (Matt.7:13-15)
Paul again says in 1 Tim 4:1, Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.
Now that I have laid the groundwork, we can move on to see how it is this unifying of false religions that fits many of the puzzles together in its relation to time end events.
This is one of the verses used most often by pseudo-Christian churches and the implication is that they are the one true church. It is believed that those outside their particular faith fit this description in Revelation 17:3. It is interesting to notice that fundamental Christianity is viewed as a cult by many who oppose it, when in reality fundamental Christians are no more than those who earnestly contend for the faith that was delivered unto the saints. The label cult is used to describe a group of people who are secretive, cliquish, and exclusionary and attempt to control and manipulate the members through brainwashing techniques. The difference between fundamental Christianity and pseudo-Christian cults is that pseudo-Christian cults do fit this description, and they also deny the fundamentals of Christianity (as outlined previously). However, fundamental Christianity is not secretive. The teachings of Christ are in the open and nothing is hidden. Christianity is not cliquish (although some individuals do try to make it so); evangelization is presented to all and all are invited to join the family of God. Christianity does not seek to control, but seeks for others to experience the freedom in Christ. Christianity does not seek to use brainwashing techniques, but simply presents the gospel to be either accepted or rejected.
Those who oppose fundamental Christianity and try to apply the word cult are assuming that fundamental Christianity is a false religion and that theirs is the unified true religion. While not all beliefs outside of fundamental Christianity are cultic, it can be said that all beliefs outside of fundamental Christianity are false, empty religions that offer no salvation because they are essentially mans attempts to save himself by becoming his own lord and savior.
There has been great controversy as to exactly what this passage of scripture is referring. Some believe it is a literal city because it is referred to as a city several times throughout the 17th chapter of Revelation. Great speculation has been focused on trying to determine which modern day city this could refer to. Brussels, Berlin, Hong Kong, Baghdad, London, Moscow, New York City, Rome, and many other cities have been mentioned at various times in different writings.
Many believed that when the twin towers of the World Trade Center were demolished in New York City on September 11, 2001, this was the beginning of the fulfillment of this portion of scripture. However, this soon proved not to be correct because Rev.18:10 says that in one hour, judgment has come, and verse 21 says that Babylon will be found no more. For one thing, we have no scriptural evidence that New York City is Babylon and for another, her destruction would have to have been total and complete to be the fulfillment of this prophesy. This brings up a third observation: If Babylon the Great is a literal city, then its destruction would come either after or during the final battle in the valley of Armageddon. If this were true, then we would have already passed through at least the first 3 ˝ years of the tribulation period, because this final battle does not come to pass until the later end of the second half of the 7-year tribulation period. The second half of the tribulation period is called the Abomination of Desolation spoken of by Daniel. The first 3˝ years will be a time of peace and prosperity that the anti-Christ will promise through a 7-year peace agreement with Israel. Many are in agreement on most of this portion of these end times events, and this is not what I wish to focus on in this writing. I wish to keep the focus on the spiritual aspects of the end time events and how they play a role in the end time events. After all, this is really what the final battle and the end time events are all about. This is the bigger picture I mentioned at the beginning, and staying focused on this is what I believe will make the end time events become clear.
Babylon comes from the word Babel meaning confusion, for which the Tower of Babel was named. When God confounded the languages of those who sought to build a tower, there was total confusion. Until that time, people all spoke one language, and they desired to build a shrine that would reach into the heavens as a monument to themselves. This was an attempt to exalt man by trying to ascend into the heavens through the works of their own hands. God knew their intent and He knew as long as they were unified in this endeavor, nothing would prevent them from trying to obtain what they imagined to do in their hearts.
God knew they would not be able to accomplish this feat, knowing that all of their time and work would be wasted on trying to obtain the impossible. It was their vain imaginations that God came against, and He confused their language, fully aware that this would scatter them throughout the world and the focus would be taken off the tower. From this scattering of people, new cultures were established, and this was the beginning of the diversity of cultures from which developed the diversity of various pagan beliefs of mythological gods. However, there was a man named Abram who did not worship the pagan gods.
Abram later became Abraham, through whom the covenant of the promises of the Messiah would be fulfilled.
From this moment forward, there were only two groups of people: the Hebrew children who worshiped the Creator and those who worshiped gods made by their own hands. This is the same battle between God and rebellious mankind that had raged throughout all of history and has continued to rage, even up to the present.
Babylon the Great is not a literal city. It is a re-gathering of the same spirit that attempted to build the tower of Babel. This time, man really believes he will accomplish what men originally attempted to accomplish when they were unified in building the Tower of Babel. Babylon the Great is representative of the unifying of man for a common goal: To once again attempt to build a monument unto themselves. Babylon is a temporal false housing for the ungodly, unlike the literal, future eternal city of the New Jerusalem. When God sends the New Jerusalem from heaven to rest upon the new earth, this will be the eternal abode for his children and Babylon will never be heard from again.
Babylon the Great is the culmination of the unified rebellion of man against God. The belief that man can and will bring in a perfect world through his own efforts will suddenly prove to be nothing but vanity when men exclude God, who created all things, from their lives.
This unification of religions is being set in place at this very moment, unlike any other time in history. It has an appearance of being good because of the promise of peace and unity in the world if all religions unite. However, it is only has an appearance of righteousness because it is based upon the righteousness of man at the exclusion of the righteousness of God. Revelation chapters 16, 17 and 18 is descriptive of how mankind (who has followed false gods) will react when he sees all of what he tried to accomplish through his own works is destroyed and laid to waste. The Tower of Babel in which men placed all their faith and trust will be no more than a pile of rubble. Then they will find how hollow and helpless they are at being their own gods and how powerless their false gods are.
History is full of various groups and individuals who attempted to establish their own form of utopia through world dominance. (Utopia means any condition, place, or situation of social or political perfection; perfection in moral, social and political life.) With each group and individual, the goal was lofty and this was the justification for killing the opposition. In other words, the end justified the means. No matter how horribly they treated other men, it was not considered a crime against humanity because of their lofty utopian goals. The problem is that utopia means different things to different people, and the underlying belief is that if all mankind believed the same way they do, then there would be unity and peace throughout the world. There has always been some political or religious movement that has attempted to control the world with the belief that if everyone would just join in with them against what they perceive as the enemy of peace, or if those standing in the way of their happiness were eliminated, then the goal of utopia could become a reality.
The Roman government was a political movement that attempted to place the entire world under Roman control to bring about its leaders idea of utopia. The Jews believed that the coming Messiah would be a religious/political leader who would make war against the Roman Empire, making the Jews the controlling force in the region and ushering in their utopia. When Constantine adopted Christianity, he then desired world dominance as a religious/political leader to bring about his utopia. Throughout our history and throughout the world there have been political and religious movements striving for world dominance. There have been various empires that differed in the political and religious beliefs that motivated them, such as Islam, but all of them, including Napoleon and more recently, Hitler, as well as the political movements of communism and socialism, shared the same goal: to usher in their own ideas of utopia.
However, the problem with all of these movements is that one persons idea of utopia is another mans hell. The only thing that all of them got right is if everybody believed and thought as themselves, then it would be utopia if the entire world were as one. This is where the problem comes in. Who or what will be the unifying belief or force that will usher in permanent peace? Who or what is the common goal and whose ideas would define what utopia would be? In a communists utopia everyone would be a communist. An atheist dreaming of utopia would picture everyone being an atheist. A socialist would have everyone be a socialist. A dictator would say, If I were the dictator of the entire world. A religious person would say, If everybody were as religious as I am. A racist would say, If there were only one race mine! Most everyone would say, If everyone were like me, that would be utopia. Mankind has always blamed someone else for the misery that he brings upon himself through rebellion towards God. This began in the Garden of Eden. When someone blames another for their own act of rebellion that brings them misery, instead of blaming themselves, the solution is to eliminate the person they believe bought the misery. This is why there have always been tribes and nations warring against one another, each one doing what is right in their own eyes and blaming and hating one another.
There may be many who wonder how the world could possibly be united with so many various religious and political differences, yet how quickly we saw these differences put aside after the terrorist attack on the WTC in New York City. With the possibility of the world becoming embroiled in a war that would threaten the very existence of man, only logical, sane and rational people would call for love, peace and unity to avert such a thing happening. The unity of all people working toward a common good has to prevail for the sake of all of mankind. Who would be against such a thing unless they themselves are evil, or deluded into thinking peace can be obtained only through forced conversion to their ideas or religion? What rational person would want to be viewed as one who opposes peace and the unity of manhood toward a common good?
The proponents of a unified religion for the common good of mankind have rationalized that wars are caused by one group imposing their beliefs on others who do not share their beliefs. Although this is true, what is missing is the whole picture of where the real war is: the war between man, who desires to be his own god, and the God who created all things. The real war is in the minds of men who are following after Satan, whose very name means adversary. The unified religions are a culmination of religious thought that opposes God and worships other gods. Satan desired to be like God, and still does, and he gives a false promise of godhood to those who follow after him. This unified world religion will be a church striving to be their own gods, and they will refuse worship to both the God of the Universe and the god of this earth. Man will be deluded into thinking he himself is a god and will not worship the god of this earth because he has changed the definition of who God is. God is thought of as a universal power, energy, or force but not as a personal, knowable God. God has become whatever one wishes God to be. God is everything and everything is God. We need to recognize and respect the diversity of all religions and see that they are only different paths to the same God.
For the moment, Satan tolerates not being recognized as the god whom his church worships but that will soon change, at the moment he declares himself to be God and demands worship for himself. That is the way it is with men and angels who desire to be their own gods: they refuse the worship directed toward anybody other than themselves. Satan fulfilled his desire to establish his church, but he will refuse to allow men to continue to worship themselves. Satans desire is for men to worship him. He desires to be recognized for his great exploits, as men desire to be recognized for their great exploits. This poses a problem for Satan so he simply destroys the false church. Satan used the unified religion to come into power, but he no longer has a use for it and turns his thoughts toward the destruction of the world in the battle of Armageddon.
Pacts that are made with Satan are always broken because he is the father of lies and he hates anything that God has created. He holds no loyalty to anyone because his goal is the destruction of God and all of His creation. Some have said it does not make sense that Satan would destroy mankind when he desires to be worshiped as God, but that is assuming that Satan desires anything more than to worship himself. Self-worship does not need the worship of others and hatred has no need of being rational. Is it any more rational for a group of men to hate another group of men and to kill them? After all their adversaries are destroyed, they would soon turn on one another in their own group until none was left.
And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast. (Rev.13:14)
The beast spoken of will be the one known as the Anti-Christ. This person will rise to power as the head of the one world unified religion.
The Anti-Christ will be the embodiment of Satan himself. This person will be completely possessed by Satan, and it will be by the power of Satan working through this person that he will be able to perform miracles. This person will come along just as the entire world seems to be sitting on the brink of disaster. He will appear as a religious person who will give a false sense of peace and prosperity as eventual head of the united world religions (in the beginning, the false prophet will appear to be the leader, but the Anti-Christ will step into this position when he declares himself to be God). This man will seem to speak with such wisdom and logic that one would be foolish not to be in agreement with the solutions that he will propose. For the doubters, he will be able to perform miracles of such magnitude that most of mankind will be convinced that such powers are from God.
Satan desires to be like God. Satan desires the power and the glory that God possesses and desires the worship directed toward God to be directed toward himself. In his effort to be like God, he is a false God who offers a false salvation, persuading us that we can be our own gods by obtaining salvation through our own works.
The best form of deception is to appear like God by mimicking the things God does. We see the first instance of Satan mimicking the miracles of God in Exodus chapter 7. Although the tricks performed by the sorcerers and the magicians appeared to be miracles, they were only imitation miracles. A true miracle of God is genuine, and He alone has the power to bring plagues or to remove plagues and to bring blessings or curses according to His will (Exodus chapters 8-12).
In reading Exodus chapters 7 through 12, we see the parallel between the plagues bought upon the Egyptians, who were representative of Satan, holding man in bondage and of Moses as the deliverer or the savior of his people. We see how God was able to bring the plagues upon the Egyptians and to protect his children from the same plagues. Another thing to notice is this parallel in Exodus and Revelation when God pours out the vials upon man during the tribulation period. Pharaoh only hardened his heart towards God, and we see the same parallel in Revelation where man chooses to curse God rather than to repent.
Another thing that Satan mimics is the Trinity, with his unholy trinity of the false prophet, the anti-Christ and himself. The false prophet would be representative of the Holy Spirit, the anti-Christ of the Savior and himself of the Father. The anti-Christ is an imitation of the incarnation of Christ when he dies from a mortal wound and Satan enters into the body of the anti-Christ and gives the false appearance of raising him back to life. The reason the reference of the Image is used is because it is only an image and is not genuine. The false prophet and the anti-Christ are only mortal human beings and the only power given to them is from Satan who has made himself his own god. This is a false trinity, unlike God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit working in unity as one. Satan has only himself and two mortal beings imitating the triune nature of God. Satan worships himself, while worship directed toward God is void of self. When God speaks of worship being directed toward Him (Elohim), this is not self-worship because it is directed toward the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Father is glorified in the Son, the Son is glorified in the Father, and the Holy Spirit is glorified in the Son and the Father, they glorify each other and thereby, God is glorified. We are glorified in the Son and our glory is found in Him that we may glory in Him and in turn, give Him glory. In this, there is no self-glorification. Look at this in contrast to how Satan and mankind glorify themselves, as represented by the harlot of Babylon: How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. (Rev.18:7)
I do not believe we are presently in the beginning of the tribulation period, but I definitely believe the time we are in is the prelude setting up the beginning of the tribulation period. I believe this is the beginning of sorrows that Jesus spoke of in Matthew chapter 24. Jesus says there will be wars and rumors of wars, but be not troubled, because the end is not yet. I believe what we are experiencing in the world at the present time will escalate until we are on the brink of a worldwide war. I believe this will set up the time for the false prophet and the anti-Christ to move in as the false savior of the world. Mankind will be so frightened at what they see coming, they will desire peace so much that they will be searching and seeking for someone to come up with the promise of worldwide peace to usher in a man-made Utopia.
This will be a spiritual movement that will engulf all religions toward a common goal. What is interesting is that even atheists will be included in this movement of spirituality. Ted Turner is an atheist yet he heads up the global movement of the unification of religions through the Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders. Fundamental Christianity and Jesus are the main targets of this Peace movement. Although there will still be wide disagreements among individuals in their personal beliefs, they will join in as one, despite the differences, for the sake of world peace. The main theme will be tolerance and love as the primary means of achieving world peace.
For those who watch closely, this theme of love and tolerance and unity of faiths is heard on a daily basis. It sounds good and righteous; who would oppose love, peace, unity and harmony? Fundamental Christianity is the only obstacle to obtaining this unity because to join in with other religions, a Christian would have to deny that Jesus is the only way, the truth and the life. This belief is considered offensive and divisive and is viewed as the enemy of peace. This is why I believe the rapture of the church will occur before the tribulation and will remove the last obstacle toward mans goal of world peace without the help or the aid of God.
Although man will be unified toward the goal of peace, there is one major problem: There will be no change in the hearts of mankind. It will only be a matter of time before resentment will begin to build because of the loss of many lives shortly after the promise of peace by the anti-Christ. Both the Jews and the Moslems will feel they were unfairly treated by the religious coalition. This coalition of unified religions will unravel as Islam once again seeks the total destruction of Israel. This time, many will side with Islam and will see the elimination of Israel as the solution to maintaining peace. Although it sounds reasonable to unify the religions of the world, the fact is Islam and Judaism both will never be able to meet on a common ground because of the fact that both religions are convinced that they are the only true religion. This is a rift that will never be settled because both sides are convinced that they are the rightful heirs to the promises that God gave unto Abraham. Both believe the holy land is theirs by virtue of divine proclamation and neither will budge from their position.
However, the fact is that the land belongs to the Jews, who are the heirs of the promise to Abraham but who forsook God when most of them refused to believe Jesus was the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophesies. Christianity (the Church or the Bride of Christ) was established through the believing Jews. Jesus was a Jew. All the apostles were Jews. The 120 in the upper room on the day of Pentecost were all Jews. The chief Pharisee of the Jews, who was named Saul, had an encounter with the risen Christ, became known as Paul, and wrote the greater portion of the New Testament. The entire Bible was written by Jews (or the Hebrew children), with the exception of Lukes writings. The Messiah, the Savior of the world, came through the lineage of Abraham. This is the reason for the hatred of the Jews and this is why Satan has sought to destroy the Jews throughout history; Gods promises are still to the Jews and He will fulfill His promise to the Jews in the later days. The non-believing Jews did not understand that the promised Messiah came to offer salvation to all of mankind, Jew and gentile alike. To this day, the non-believing Jews still believe that the Messiah was intended only for the Jews, to the exclusion of the gentiles. In the mind of the Jews, everyone who is not a Jew is a gentile and on the other side of the coin, the Moslems believe anybody who is not a Moslem is an infidel worthy of death. These beliefs by both sides will never be resolved until Jesus, who is the Savior of both Jew and gentile, returns.
The peace pact the anti-Christ made with Israel will be broken. This will usher in the final battle of Armageddon. I believe the peace pact will be something along the order of a Palestinian state within the borders of Israel through a mutual agreement: land for the Palestinians in exchange for the Jews right to rebuild the Jewish Temple. How this will come about, I have no idea. Perhaps an agreement will provide for Jerusalem to be recognized as the capital of Israel, with Moslems and Christians working alongside the Jews to build the temple. The Jewish Temple will be built on or near the present remains of the temples original foundation, under the El-Aksa Mosque on the Dome of the Rock. Perhaps another solution would be to convert the El-Aksa Mosque to the satisfaction of the Jews, the Moslems and the Christians by turning it into a Unified Church for the use of all three religions in the region. This will appear to be a peaceful solution in the beginning, but the deep-seated hatred will still linger under the surface. The Moslems will still resent and hate the Jews, the Jews will still resent and hate the Moslems, and both the Jews and the Moslems will resent and hate the then-present false Christian churches. The false Christian coalition will be divided with some opting to destroy the Jews and others opting to destroy the Moslems.
Those who hold no religious affiliation will once again see religion as the enemy of world peace and they will seek to destroy any vestige of religion. These would include China and perhaps Russia, along with other nations that hold no particular religious beliefs, but their motivations will be purely political, such as Communism and/or those who hold secular humanistic ideologies.
Satan will inflame the anger of the Jews when he enters and desecrates the temple . This will soon embroil the entire world in a war in which nobody knows who the enemy is. Satans goal is to first destroy the Jews, then the false Christian church and the Moslems. Once that is accomplished, he will turn to the destruction of the rest of mankind, who will be fighting for their own reasons and ideals. Perhaps when the anti-Christ declares himself to be God and follows this declaration with signs and wonders, those who call themselves atheists and agnostics will be convinced, will follow after the New True Religion and will themselves engage in killing in the name of God.
Much has been said about the mark of the beast and its having to do with the ability to purchase the necessities of life. The mark does have something to do with a permanent identification upon the person that cannot be removed, changed or altered. This identification comes in three ways: the mark (perhaps a bar code), the name of the beast (perhaps some kind of identification with his name as recognition of his allegiance to the person), or his number (perhaps the number of the beast, or perhaps his number in reference to the social identification of each individual). The mark could be a tattoo, similar to those which are very much in vogue today, or it may be a computer chip injected under the skin, or something altogether different. It may also be a combination of these things. Whatever it is, it must be visible or to be able to be scanned. The point is, receiving the mark will be a requirement and one must either give his obedience and worship to the beast in order to receive the mark, or face death.
Lets take the mystery out of this with some practical illustrations as to how the mark will be viewed as a good thing and how not to receive the mark will be viewed as evil. Many cringe at the thought of having a cashless society, viewing it as an infringement upon our freedom to spend our money in the way we choose. However, when the entire picture is painted, it will portray the cashless society to be for the good of all of mankind and worth the sacrifice of some personal freedoms for the common good.
The propaganda that will increase soon will point out all of the good that will come about through a cashless society in which not only cash but also credit cards and checkbooks will be eliminated. The rosy picture will be on the order of the following scenario:
Each person on the face of the earth will have his own personal account, a number that no other person will have for his or her entire life. This will probably be given at the moment of birth. When you work at your job, you do not receive a check, but the amount owed you will be placed directly into your personal account. To withdraw from your account to pay a bill or money owed to someone else, the amount owed will be taken directly from your account and placed in the account of the one to whom you owe money. There is no actual exchange of money; all that will change will be the balances in the accounts. There will only be an electronic trail of all of the exchanges of numbers from one account to another. Whose account the transfer came from and to whose account it was credited and what the purchase consisted of will all be monitored and kept track of.
It will not matter whether there is actual gold or silver that backs the exchange. Every exchange of goods or services will be on paper only. It will be on the order of a worldwide barter system in which there will be no exchange of money, but only an exchange of goods or services. Money, gold, silver or any other such items that once had value will be virtually worthless in a cashless society. The wealth of all of the nations will be lumped into one world bank under the guise of eventual worldwide distribution of the wealth to the masses. This will eliminate poverty in the entire world and there will no longer be any need for war because everyone will share equally in the wealth and mankind will finally be happy and content (as it will be supposed).
This is not the only wonderful thing. This will also eliminate crime. If there are no checks or credit cards to steal or to forge and no cash to steal or to hide, look at how it will stop theft, prostitution, drug trafficking, bribery and kidnappings for ransom. Everyone will leave an electronic trail that can lead right to the offender and this will virtually eliminate crime, including the white-collar variety. Governments will not be able to steal or cheat anybody without being found out by the world court and brought to justice. The need for taxes will be eliminated. All will be assured of fair and equal housing. Transportation, food, clothing and medical care will be provided for everyone. Best of all, there would be no funding for terrorist or radical and racist organizations because the electronic trail can be easily traced. With the click of a finger, an account number in the world bank will be eliminated and the offenders will be stopped in their tracks. Having lost the ability to conduct financial transactions, they will no longer be able to operate and their arrest will be inevitable.
Who in their right mind would be against such a wonderful plan? To not agree with this wonderful common good for all of man, you must be for prostitution, thievery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and poverty. Either that or you are a member of a terrorist or racist group that does not desire world peace but enjoys wars and killing. Or at the least, you are greedy and dont care about others and want only what is good for yourself.
With this scenario, one can see how this appears to sound very spiritual and godly, and great pressure will be exerted to conform to this godly ideal. If you do not conform, you will be tagged as being ungodly and evil.
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. (2Cor.11:13-15)
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (Matt.24:24)
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. (Romans 10:3)
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! (Isaiah 5:20-21)
Religion built upon the righteousness of man through wisdom in his own eyes is void of love, mercy and grace and always leads to total control. This will be no different when one whose only interest is the death and destruction of those who oppose him heads the unified religion. What promised to be Utopia will soon turn into hell for those who follow after the false promises of the false prophet, the anti-Christ and Satan.
The issue of the rapture of the church is probably one of the most controversial subjects there is within the church. There are good arguments on all sides of the issue of whether the rapture will occur before, during, or after the tribulation (these positions are commonly referred to as pre-trib, mid-trib, and post-trib). I tend to lean toward a pre-trib rapture for the reasons I have previously mentioned. I believe those who believe in a mid-trib or a post-trib rapture have a misunderstanding of the difference between the tribulation saints and the saints who have suffered tribulation since the establishment of the church of Christ up to the present time. Failure to make the distinction between the saints who are the Bride of Christ and the saints who go through the Great Tribulation leads to error in the understanding and the purpose of the seven-year tribulation period. It is the Bride of Christ who is raptured to be joined with those who have died before the tribulation and it is the Bride who returns with Christ to reign with Him for a thousand years. When Christ returns with the Bride of Christ, they are joined with the tribulation saints who died during the tribulation and with those saints who still remain alive on the earth (those who became Christians during the tribulation). All of the saints will then reign with Christ for a thousand years.
Some may argue that if the Holy Spirit left with the Saints at the rapture, then He would not be on the earth during the tribulation period to convict men of their sins. However, the Holy Spirit is not confined by time or space, and if the Holy Spirit were not present to convict men of their sins, then there would be no purpose for the two witnesses to prophesy during the first three and a half years of the tribulation. Also, if this were true, there would be no need for the angel who proclaims the gospel unto all the nations before the fall of Babylon. The tribulation period is intended to draw the last remnant of mankind to repentance to receive salvation. Even in Gods wrath, He still holds out mercy and forgiveness. There are 144-thousand Jews who will acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah. We also see another remnant who are gentiles who receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior after the two witnesses are killed and come back to life after three and a half days.
If the Church were present during this period of time, the Church would be the witnesses and there would be no need of the two witnesses and the angel proclaiming the gospel. I believe those who will acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior will include many of those who have heard the gospel but never made a decision before the rapture along with those who may not have heard the gospel before. During this period of the tribulation, the Jews who receive Jesus as their messiah are the fulfillment of Gods promise to save a remnant of the Jews in the last days.
Some have taught that the gospel must be preached to everyone before Christ returns for His Bride, however I do not believe this is necessarily so. The scripture quoted as a proof text is Matthew 24:14 where Jesus states, And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. However, we know the end means the end of the tribulation period just before Jesus returns with the saints to set up his kingdom on this earth. It is an angel that proclaims the gospel unto the utter parts of the earth after the Bride of Christ is raptured. After this proclamation is announced, then another angel says, Babylon is fallen, then a third angel gives the warning to those who receive the mark of the beast (Rev.18:8-11). The very next verse is why I do not believe the Bride of Christ is present during this period because it says, Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus (Rev.18:12). If this were the Bride of Christ, then why would this portion of scripture be placed right after the proclamation of the gospel by the first angel, then the announcement of Babylon falling, followed by the warnings and the consequences of receiving the mark of the beast? Rather than this being the Bride of Christ, this would more aptly apply to those who responded to the gospel proclaimed by the angel and the warnings by the second and third angels. The Bride of Christ has already responded to the gospel and would not need to hear it at this time. It is the previously martyred saints who ask how long before judgment comes upon the earth.
Many believe that the return of Christ means the end of time and are frightened of His return because they believe that means it is the end of all things and that He will destroy all mankind. This is exactly what Satan wants people to believe. He wants man to believe that Gods desire is to destroy all mankind when, in fact, this is what Satan desires to do. The Bible says that if it were NOT for the return of Christ, all mankind would destroy itself. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake (the Bride of Christ and those martyred for their faith during the tribulation period) those days shall be shortened (Matt.24:22).
Jesus returns right smack in the middle of the battle of Armageddon along with His army. He puts a stop to mankind destroying themselves and sets up His kingdom on earth. Finally, the world will know righteousness and true and lasting peace for a thousand years upon a newly restored earth.
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist. The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. (Isaiah 11:3-9)
We see something extremely peculiar happen with mankind as they see the physical return of Christ along with the physical return of the saints who are with Him. Even though men are in the process of totally destroying themselves, when they see Christ and the army of saints they stop fighting each other and turn their hatred toward Christ and the saints.
We read in Rev.17:12-14, And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
This shows the extreme hatred man has towards God and how strongly he desires to bring in Utopia without God. As hard as it may to be to comprehend, man prefers death and destruction to having God rule over the nations because mankind is convinced he can accomplish his own brand of utopia through his own wisdom as his own god.
Jesus will then be placed upon the throne of David as the eternal King of Kings and will establish His kingdom on earth. This will be a true Utopia, a perfect government ruled with perfect righteousness because God will be the perfect standard. We will be given positions within this government to rule the nations along with Christ. This will be resented by the surviving non-believers, but they will be ruled with an iron hand and will see and experience a perfect ruling government. They will resent it because it will not be according to their liking, because unredeemed mankind will still desire to do evil and will see it as unfair.
During this thousand-year reign of Christ, mankind will still be giving birth to children and the world will be repopulated. During this period of time, I believe many will repent and receive eternal life. However, we see that even though Satan will be bound during this period of time and will have no influence on the minds of men, Satan will be loosed a final time and will be able to gather an army which desires to overthrow the kingdom of God.
I believe God allows this to happen to take away any excuse that mankind may have for its rebellion against God. Man will not even be able to use the excuse, Satan made me do it. This final act of rebellion is quickly brought to naught when God sends fire from heaven and destroys the last vestige of rebellion.
All the dead from Adam to the present who died without God as their Savior, men of both the Old and the New Testament will then be raised to life. They will be standing before the White Throne of judgment and will stand naked before him to give an account of their lives according to their works. Their works will not cut the mustard because it was their own works of righteousness, which are as filthy rags. These will be those who rejected the forgiveness of sin and refused the covering of the righteousness of Christ. This is called the second death because they died without God and were raised to life to stand before God for judgment. The penalty of sin without forgiveness is death, and they sentenced themselves to death by refusing Gods free gift of eternal life.
Immediately after the final Judgment, we see that God creates a new heaven and a new earth. The new heaven and earth will far surpass the original earth as it was in the Garden of Eden. The new earth will be huge and glorious beyond description. Huge because all of the saints from the beginning of time will inhabit it throughout eternity in our eternal youthful perfect bodies of flesh and bone. Huge because the eternal city of Jerusalem will descend from heaven and will set upon the new earth. The New Jerusalem will be 1500 miles square. That is an area the size of the distance from California to Missouri from east to west and from Texas to North Dakota from north to south, roughly half the size of the United States. Not only that, it will be 1500 miles high. If the present population of the 6 billion people in the world were to inhabit the New Jerusalem, there would be a little over an entire acre mansion for each person on just the first five levels of the city. If each level of the New Jerusalem were 1,056 feet high, that would cover only the first mile of height and this leaving another 7,495 levels uninhabited. This is what Jesus was referring to when he said, In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (John 14:2-3)
However, we will not be confined to our mansion, the city has gates that are open for those to travel in and out. In the new earth and the New Jerusalem, there will be no more sorrow, tears, death or pain. The glory of God will be the light and we will be forever present with Him and reign forever and ever.
There is one more thing I would like to mention that nobody really understands. It appears that there will be nations and kings outside the gates that will come and bring their honor and glory into the city. Exactly who these kings and nations are is not clear. It does say it is of the nations of them that are saved and why they would be outside of the city is not known. Could one explanation possibility be that it is those who will have little reward except for eternal life?
Another possibility would be, those who dwell within the New Jerusalem are those who were martyred for their faith before the tribulation and the martyred tribulation saints having received a greater reward.
Rev.21:27 goes on to say, And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. I do not know if this means that there are those outside of the gates who still sin. It appears this is a possibility and that they can never enter into the gates.
Another explanation could be that this refers to those in past tense who were not written in the book of life who have no part of anything, but have been cast into hell to be forever apart from God. This would be the most logical explanation if it were not for Rev.22:1-2 which states, And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
It is strange that the water of life flows out from the throne of God and of the Lamb, and that each month the tree of life bears fruit and that the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
It almost sounds like life is still being offered and the healing of nations continues. If this is correct, then for whom or for what reason is anybodys guess, and anybodys guess is as good as anybody elses. At this time, I would not even dare to guess or give any opinions.
This is one of those mysteries that we will not understand this side of heaven. We cannot comprehend the infinite wisdom of God nor fully understand what will transpire as eternity stretches out before us. All I do know is that heaven will be way beyond any beauty we could possibly even imagine in this earth and whatever pains, sorrows and tribulations we go through in this life will be rewarded beyond our wildest imagination.
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1Cor.2:9)
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. (Rev.22:17)

Isaiah 14:12-14 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! Isaiah 45:20-22 Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
Isaiah 42:5 & 8 Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein: I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images. So God (Elohim) created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Rev.9:20-21 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts. 2Thes.2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. (Many, as well as I, believe He is the Holy Spirit who indwells believers who will be taken out at the rapture. This leaves the door wide open for Satan to operate unhindered to fulfill what God allows him to fulfill.)
